Soca Music

Want my secret to curing depression. It is no pill, no drug or therapist visits. It is an addiction called Soca music. Well let me start by saying without Soca, I would not know how to come out of a sad funk.

There are so many genres of music that is well put together but there is non like soca music. This music is from my beautiful country of Trinidad. The land of Carnival that is happening from now until the first week of March with Carnival Monday and Tuesday to put the icing on the cake.

My love for Carnival,Soca music and playing mas is one everyone who reads this and never experience has to embrace. It is one of the most freeing moments you can feel in your life. Trust me people the vybes is absolutely memorizing.

I would touch a little on two Trinidadian female soca artists that I have been listening to for many years. These two strong, independent, creative and influential women have been in the industry for many years. Over the years they have evolved in many ways and today I will give you a little background on each one.

I will start with Nadia Batson. December born Nadia began singing and writing at the age of 8. Nadia Batson who is now a singer, songwriter, and producer gained her fame when she was the runner up in the Power Category of the International Soca Monarch in 2007.

Nadia Batson joined Kes the Band in 2005 and became the leading female vocalist to the band. She toured around the world with the band and in 2011, Nadia departed Kes the Band.

Today Nadia is one of the many female soca artists that has been around for many years. Releasing songs each Carnival and around the year to keep her fans in tune with her music.

Some of my all time favorite songs of her is Manager released in 2013, catching feelings in 2018 and this year so long. All her songs are very catchy and you won’t be disappointed with her tracks.

Fayann Lyons, a female champion in the Soca music industry has been around for a while now. With many titles under her belt and known as Superblue daughter, has acquired three Trinidad and Tobago Road March and Groovy Soca Monarch Championship. She has won these in 2003, 2008 and 2009, Fayann Lyons has left her shining mark in the industry for sure.

Wife of Bunji Garlin, another Soca music champion, mother and a phenomenal artist is a member of her husband band Asylum. Songwriter of her music, Fayann has learned this from her father who has won the Road March title 9 times and Soca Monarch title 7 times. She was groomed from a young age to be a champion in this industry as she learned from one of the best.

Fayann compositions have earned her several nominations and awards from the Copyright Music Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago including female songwriter of the year and has many others from the Soca Awards organizations.

Some of my all-time favorites from her are Display( 2003 ), Get on ( 2008 ), Meet Super Blue ( 2009), Raze (2015) and this year Feel Good.

Soca music has been around since I can remember. It is the life of Carnival, it is the heart and soul of Trinidadians. We love our music but it is the feeling that makes this music so special. You would surely be winning as we say, in your seats. These two artists are very unique in there own way and making a mark in the industry today.
